Summary: A group of 17 new 3-(phtalaimidoalkyl)-pyrazolin-5-ones
weretested for their mitodepressive activity upon the growth ofLepidium
sativum L. seeds (Cresson). All of them have shown mitodepressive effect on
the growth of the plant. Fourtopological indices (the Wiener index, the
valence-connecitvityindex, the Balaban index and the information-theoretic
index)were used in QSAR studies (inhibition of plant growth in %
andcytostatic activity in ED50) on these compounds. We obtained QSARmodels
that can predict cytostatic activity on the HeLa cells (inED50) with
considerable accuracy.

Summary: Several QSPR models with topological indices are proposed
forpredicing physical properties of newly
prepared3-(phthalimidoalkyl)-pyrazolin-5-ones. Four topological indiceswere
used. These are the Wiener index, the valence connectivityindex, the
Balaban index and the information-theoretic index. Thebest QSPR models were
obtained using the Wiener index and thevalence connectivity index. The
Balaban index and theinformation-theoretic index produced less accurate
models. QSPRmodels based on combination of indices appear to be reliable.

Summary: Physicochemical parameters such are molecular weight,
density, diffusion coefficient, heat of fusion, and vapor pressure could be
well correlated with selected molecular descriptors (the Wiener Index, The
First-Order Connectivity Index, the Fifth-Order Connectivity Index, the
Sixth-Order Valence-Connectivity Index, Balaban Index, and the Number of
Non-hydrogen Atoms in the Molecule). Correlation studies were proposed for
determination and prediction of the behavior of the explosives as
pollutants in the environment as well as for their safety in production.
Besides, the peper brings extensive discussion on the toxicological and
biochemical properties of chemicals used as explosives and drugs, as well
as mechanisms of toxicitz and biotransformation in the respect of the use
of nonempirical parameters for prediction of the compounds behaviour in the
environment.

Summary: Metabolic pathways and the pharmacokinetic profile of
mefenorex, and its main metabolite amphetamine have been studied in two
healthy volunteers, after a single dose of mefenorex. Urinary
concentrations were determined by gas chromatogarphy and metabolite
structure was indentified by GC/MS following derivatization of urine
extracts. A new urinarz metabolite of mefenorx was identified in the urine
and the structure determined bz GC-MS. The kinetics of excretion of the
metabolites and the unchanged drug (ratio amfetamine/mefenorex) was
proposed as indication od the drug misuse in spor an the society.

Summary: Binding of (+)- and (-)- isomers and the racemate of
etomoxir to the human serum albumin was studied by the gel filtration
method. The experimental results are presented graphi using the method of
Scatchard. Stereoselectivity of binding of the enantiomers was indicated
together with difference in the binding mechanism, and the influence of
edogenous (steric acid) and exogenous (stanozolol) comounds. The results
were discused in respect to the different mechanisms and possible
implication on the kinetics of the binding process.

Summary: The efficiency of ten thin-layer silica gel chromatographic
systems for separating flavonoids is compared by using the information
theory and numerical taxonomy. The design of the most effective series of
chromatographic systems is discussed in terms of individual DP of the
systems and the inter-system correlation. The most favoruable
cromatographical systems for the future quantitative analysis of the
flavonoids Paliurus spina- christi Mill. are: ethylacetate:formic
acid:acetic acid:water, 100:11:11:27, ethyl acetate: formic acid:water,
8:1:1 and chloroform:methanol:water, 6.5:3.5:1.

Summary: Newly prepared phthalimidohydroxamic acids are tested for
their mitodepressive effect on the growth of Lepidium sativum L. seeds
(Cresson). Their partition coefficients, log P (o/w), are calculated by
Rekker method. In the structure-property-activity study we have used
topological indices to predict the physico-chemical properties and
bioactivity of the prepared compounds. The optimal QSPR and QSAR models are
obtained by using the valence connectivity index and the
information-theoretic index.
