Summary: Multy-disciplined cropping systems long term study is
beeing performed on a vertic amphygley of upper Sava Valley (location
Oborovo) and on a semigley of mid Drava Valley (location Pitomača). At the
first location five systems are composed of rotation relating to cash
grain production, four are based on the forage legume crops and extensive
permanent grass/clover pasture is also included. In some systems and crops
alternative practices in tillage, winter cover crops growing, nonchemical
weed control, disease and insect resistance of cultivars are investigated.
At the second location eight crop rotations in growing Virginia type
tobacco are under investigations. Productivity, profitability and
ecological influences of each system are measured thru grain or forage dry
matter yields, nutrients (N,P,K) cycling, soil chemical and physical
changes, disease and insect attacks, weed flora monitoring, nitrate, heavy
metals and herbicides (triazines) accumulation in the soil and thru
recording all costs of inputs.
Keywords: cropping systems, alternative practices, productivity, environmental influence, profitability
Research goals: - to compare productivity, profitability and
environmentalinfluence of several intensive cropping systems in which
maincrops in Croatia - maize and winter wheat are included andsystems in
which forage legumes are included in variouspercentage. - to compare
rotations effects in growing Virginia tobacco. - to describe dynamics
of nutrient cycling, plant-pestrelations, soil microbiology and fauna in
different systems - to create outdoor laboratory as education point
forstudents, researchers, farmers - Results obtained will contribute to
scientific disciplineand investigations in similar agroecological
conditions and willbe use in programing recommendations for practice.
