Summary: The project consist of scientific research ( lasting 5
years) ofagricultural soils water regime arrangement by means of
pipedrainage and agricultural crop irrigation. The research haveapplied and
partly basic character. They are performed atstations by field plot
experiments. The research program iscarried out in pipe drainage system and
irrigated fields inagroecological conditions of eastern Croatia. The aims
of projectare to find out drainage measures effect on soil and crops aswell
as plant reaction on irrigaton, during critical phases oftheir growth. The
results of the research in the period from 1991- 1993 show the following: -
drainage systems improved lands actproperly bringing down the underground
water on tolerant depts(60 - 80 cm under soil surface) and drainage
measures havepositive influence on stabilization and increasing of crop
yields(on the avarage 20 - 50 %). - Agricultural crop irrigation
isjustified for seed and vegetable crops for it stabilizes andincreases
their yields (on the average 15 - 45 %) by adding lessquantity of water (20
- 40 mm) in two or three rates duringvegetation. Obtained results of the
research give new scientificknowledge and congnitions from the field of
drainage andirrigation in agronomy and it is already applied in
agricultural production on these areas.

Research goals: The aims of the project are investigations and
revealing the influence of agricultural soil water regime arrangement (in
the eastern part of Croatia) on growing and crop yields. The researches,
during the project, anticipate: - establishing the efect of pipe drainage
on arable lands, soil and main farming crop yields, establishing of crop
reaction on irrigation and determation of crop water demand and the moment
of irrigation. The project results should show the work of underguound pipe
drainage systems on researching soils (whether excessive water drainage
effect positive or negative on farming production). The results with
irrigation are expected to show the importance and significance of
artifical addition of water to some crops during vegetation in these
districts. The researches and their results should give scientific
contribution for more important production increasing of high-quality and
biologicaly healthy food for people and catlle as well as raw materijals
for industry.
