Summary: A five-year exact trial (1989-1990) was estabilished on the
properties used for the arable land production of the region of Županja in
order to investigate the fluctutaions of ground water in soils with and
withount drainage, as well as the effects of the drainage on yields of the
crops grown there. The results of the investigation indicate that the
drainage systems functioned properly, as reflected in the fall of high
levels of water, occuring in time, and a full exceeding of the quota. On
all plots under drainage, ground water did not reach the layer of the soil,
the depth of which ranged from 0-70 cm. Plots under agricultural crops
withount drainage had an excess of ground water in the layer where crop
production takes place, the depth of which ranged from 0-40 cm.

Summary: Five-year stationary research on the effects that drainage
systemhad on the levels of ground water in soils with and withount
drainage, used for the purposes of agricultural crop production, was
conducted in the region Županja from 1986-1990. The results of the
investigation have show that the channel drainage in the soil functioted
properly and let groundwater fall to the depth tolerable (60-80cm in mean
under the surface). At the same time the ground water in soils without
drainage was found to fluctate in the layer at the depth of 0-30cm from I-V
month). Some positive effects of drainage on yields of agricultural crops
were also observed. The yields were found to be higer by10-50% on soils
with drainage on all locations and in all years of the investigation, which
was depedant on climatic conditions and the crop.

Summary: The authors deal with two sources of agriculture promotion
of Slavonia and Baranya: natural and scientific sources. Natural sources
encompass geographical position, climate, soil and agricultural
conditions(S. Madjar), whereas scientific researches encompass professional
and scientific work in agriculture beginning with the first professional
investigations concerning farming on Slavonia large estates trought 1878 to
taday,s Agricultural Institute and education development-education in
reference to agriculture from the first schools to today,s Faculty of
Agriculture (J. Martinčić). The above mentioned the authors connect with
patriotic war which causes temperary losses and neglect of arable lands,
hydroreclamation system as well as destruction of scientigic-teaching
complex. The authors conclude that in spite of all above mentioned,
scientific. teaching and expert workers are still very active in teaching
students and scientific and expert agricultural problems solving. Thus,
they are arable to join each agricultural project of the Republic of
Croatia and in that wax they will be a source of agricultural promotion.

Held: from 05/03/95 to 05/05/95
Summary: Researches of the phenomen of dry and warm years as well as
the changes of weather conditions were carried out in the period 1965-1990
on the locations (osijek, Đakovo, Brestovac) fro the area of eastern
Croatia. Drastically appearance of the dry period has been noticed and
lasted since 1981 till today. The share of the dry years been increased
from 20 % to 50-70% thus, now it is almost every second year dry per its
hydrological properties. At the same time annual and vegetation
precipitations are (sufficient water) decreased. In the dry year series
only 494 mm and in vegetation 247 mm precipitations has been fallen on the
average yearly. This is a limit of crop water requirements. Water losses
(deficient) by evapotranspiration have been significantly increased, thus,
resulted in more water supply reduction for the plants in the soil. That
why needs for irrigation espacialy of spring crops in eastern Croatia have
been more impotrant. This specially refers to seed (maize, sugar beet,
vegetables, vineyards, orchards).

Summary: The catchment basin of river Vuka has got the area of
112352 ha. Hydrological problems of the catchment basin were very small
river bed fall slopes at Vuka, very high coefficients of roughness, terrain
pesk elevation lower than medium and high water og the river Vuka, very
slow run, danger of flood wawes, high subsurface waters. For the purpose of
thise problems reclaim, a dam "Borovik" was biult with volume accumulation
of 8-10 mil m3 of water, pumping station "Dvor" with capacity of 20 m3/s
which "transports" excessive rainfals from on endangered means canals of
the river Vuka. In the catchment basin automorphic solis are present on 35%
where as hydromorphic soils on 65% of the area. Automorphic soils are
arranged by on open canal rail while hydromorphic also by pipe drainage and
combined drainage. About 60% of the catchment basin area was temporary
occupied during war years 1991 and 1992. War damage estimations on a free
territory for equipement, mechanization andvehicles for JVP "VUKA" are
2350000 DM. Damages of the objects at temporary occupied area haven,t been
show for a damage degree is still unknown (a pumping station "DVOR" is
desrtoyed. Indirect damages will be present within agriculture and ecology
for long time, becuase of regression in catchment basin functioning as a
nature whole.

Summary: In the area of Đakovo it is recorder a water deficit from
45 to 285 mm yearly (1961-1990) depending on the year. Irrigation is used
mainly on the lessive, very lessive and swampiland, meliorated (eugley,
humogley) soli types. The irrigated soils are drainaged, with carried out
of a basic and detailed channel net. On the Agricultural Enterprise Đakovo
ther are irigated 280 hectars. It is irrigated seed maize production,
diferent crops of vegetables, alfa alfa and pastures. At irrigation it is
used the following technics: self-movable sprinkler (typhon) and
semi-movable sprinklers. Irrigation rates applied are about 20 mm becuase
the irrigated soils are of limited infiltration ability. After arranging of
all planned accumulations and retentions, on the Vuka and Biđ-Bosut river
basins there will be totally 88095 x 10 3 m3 of water. It would be enough
water for irrigation from 44000 to 59000 ha, roughly. For the time bein, on
the Agricuktural Enterprise đakovo it is possible for irrigation to use
8456 x 10 3 m 3 of water.

Summary: Scarcity of fresh water as well as its tremendous resent
pollution are two great problems all over the world at the turn of the
century. The greatest consumer of fresh water is agriculture (almost 80% of
the total quantity), using it for irrigation on more than 235 mil. hectare.
Since water is an essential component os sustainable agricultural
development, better protection and water management are required. The same
applies to Crpatia, where small areas are irrigated (13290 ha or 0.81 of
arable land). According to agroecological and economical conditions in
Croatia, localized irrigation devices, such as drippers and mini-sprinklers
are suitable. By means of micro-irrigators various high-quality friuts and
vegetables can be irrigated obtained ecologicaly more healthy food. The
systems of localized irrigation use small water quantities, saving water
and soil with lower disturbance of the onvironment and agroecosystem.
