Summary: The Osijek Agricultural institute has a long tradition
increating new alfalfa cultivars. As a result, 16 cultivars havebeen
recognized so far. As stated in our project, the aim is tocreate new
cultivars with higher crude protein yields/ha wichwill be grown for four
to five years. In 1993, we have grownapproximately 17500 alfalfa plants
from F1 generation and furthergenerations.
Keywords: alflfa, cultivar, crude protein, long duration
Research goals: The objective of the investigation is to create new
alfalfagenotypes with a larger protein content and of a larger
durationwhen intensively grovn and to achieve a better development ofseed
under natural conditions. In further alfalfa breeding, creating new
genotypes will ensure the creation of the alfalfavarieties with improved
qualitative and quantitative traits. As aresult, the new alfalfa cultivars
have been recognized.
