Summary: The results of investigations of growth, fruitfulness and
fruit quality of five apple cultivars (Hi Early, Elstar, Alkmene,
Prima, Golden Delicious clone b) grafted on rootstock M.26, MM.106 and
MM.106 with M.9 as interstock, showed that interstock decreased trees
vigor and increased fruitfulness. In the semi-humid area of continental
Croatia the best fruitfulness was occurred in cvs. Golden Delicious clone
b and Prima. The lowest yield was found in cv. Hi Early. Average fruit
mass and fruit quality was satisfactory. Leaf analyses showed genetic
specificity of examined cultivars.
Keywords: apple cvs., rootstock, ecological conditions, ecophysiological capacity, fruit quality
Research goals: The aim of the research is to work out and improve
new technology in apple growing in high density planting. Efforts will be
directed towards the increase of fruitfulness, better quality of fruit and
lower production costs. Suitable combinations of cultivars on rootstocks
and interstock in various ecological conditions will be assessed. Research
will contribute to improvement in both projecting new orchards and apple
production. Other information about the project.
