Summary: Clonal selection from the Oblačinska sour cherry population was carried out by studying and selecting clones of superior properties suitable for production and remodelling of this sour cherry population. This research is expected to provide a significant contribution to the production of this species. For the purposes of this research an inventory was made and trees exhibiting superior properties were selected in sour cherry orchards over a wide area of continental Croatia. The selected trees were studied for their properties within the first phase of research. Maiden trees were produced from the selected trees for the purpose of establishing a pilot orchard to be employed for the second phase of comparative research. Trial orchard was set (in spring 1994) with this maiden trees by the method of random blocks; there were four blocks of 42 selected clones of 'Oblačinska' sour cherry trees. In such a manner were continuied the second phase of comparative research in the samo ecological conditions where the evoluation of genotypic variations will be more confidently. During the first two years of investigation (1994 and 1995) on selected trees were determinated vegetative growth and development, occurence of generative phenophases (in 1995) and reaction on pest and deseases. Actual investigations isn't finished yet and for better evaluation of selected clones must be continuied at least to beginning of full fruiting.

Research goals: The objective of research is to identify and select superiorclones - types of the Oblačinska sour cherry from its presentpopulation in Croatia. It is estimated that on completion ofresearch it will be possible to select superior clones of theOblačinska sour cherry suitable for production and remodelling.If any of the selected clones should be found to meet therequired criteria, application will be made for officialrecognition of the Oblačinska sour cherry species.
