Summary: This programme includes: - ampelographic research of autochthonous and domesticated sorts of grape-vine in Istria and foundation of gene plasma bank for the purpose of selection, - ampelographic research of introduced sorts and coriginal culms for improvement of sorts on Istrian vineyards, possibility of production of quality wines, famous dessert and sparkling wines, - research in possible application of growth forms for main high quality sorts in Istria and application of mechanization in work with vine-plants, - determination of pests and natural enimies in Istrian vineyards, examination of sensitivity to certain diseases and pests for integral and directed protection of sorts, - winefication of all sorts and combinations in experiment, - formation of data base for future research.

Research goals: According to the world-wide programme of applied researcg in wine-growing the following goals are set for the region of Istria: - finding of optimal agrotechnical and ampelotechnical standard sorts which include growth form, cutting, choice of stock, application of complex work mechanization in vineyards and in manufacture, - application of the latest winefication moodels in production of wines according to market laws, -collecting of autochthonous sorts from the oldest vineyards in Istria and nearby vineyard regions, ampelographic research andplantation formation for gene plazma bank, preservation of these sorts, - introduction of sorts from other parts to fill up the assortment and improve the quality in production of special famous wines (desert, sparkling and other wines), - determination of cultivar, mutants and culms by means of electrophoresis (isoenzimatic analysis), - determination of viral diseases in standard autochthonous and introduced sorts, application of meristematic growth (micropropagation tissue culture technique) in production of viruless material for parent plants collection, selection of plantations for gene plazma bank, - winefication in controlled conditions with minimal usage of artificial means, - formation of data base and joining the world information system (through cooperation with Italian institute).
