Summary: The proposed project is based on the following: application of the techno-economic methods of analyzing the influential factors in the production efficiency and management in wood industry; adequate simulation models for the research on the behavior of the wood industry enterprises in different real and assumed conditions; comparison to the results of foreign firms; scientific valorization of the achieved results as to the similar ones in other countries (only wood industry enterprises in market-oriented economy). It is also necessary to make drafts for proposals of restructuring the wood industry enterprises in Croatia.

Research goals: Dwindling development and production have been major signs of the crisis through which Croatian wood industry is currently going, resulting primarily from its inadequate development strategies. The development was basically oriented towards raw material; primary wood processing; closed reproduction units; big enterprises; differentiation of the products as to domestic and foreign markets; monopolies on the closed domestic market. Accordingly, the aims of this research are divided into three groups: 1. increased complexity of wood industry - economical division of work and management efficiency; 2. types of organization and management strategies; 3. open dynamic model of managing the development of wood industry. The expected contribution to the research should be in the form of offering scientific support for a reconstruction of wood industry with an emphasis on the market, changeable production programmes, flexible production and high-quality products. Besides, models of restructuring big systems would be made, together with the models of creating new relations in work division, specialization and cooperation, and also building of new organization models capable of entering the world market.
