Summary: The application of the BLUP method to evaluate
Holstein-Friesian bulls showed advantage over the CC method. In breeding
value evaluation of sires by the BLUP method, the possibility to eliminate
the main systematic environmental influences is very significant. The
systematic influences on the productivity of the first lactation cows were
estimated at 36% for milk yield, 37% for fat yield and 23% for fat content.
The relationship matrix model of breeding values of sires turned out to be
better than the model with genetic groups. By crossing the Simental with
red Holstein-Friesian breeds, the milk yield in lactation has increased for
637 kg and the fat yield for 24 kg. The heritability of the Lipizzaner
horses for withers height, chest volume and cannon bone circumference
varied from 0.49 to 0.80, 0.31-0.68 and 0.25-0.58, respectively. The BLUP
model was applied for breeding value evaluation regarding the body
measurements. Crossings concerning the sheep production showed that it is
possible to increase the daily gains for 14-19% by means of this method.
Research goals: The aim of these researches is to find a suitable
model of the BLUP-method which should provide a high accuracy of the cattle
breeding values. The estimated results were of use in shaping the new
suggestions and instructions for evaluation of bulls and cows. Quantitative
genetic analysis of the morphological and reproductive parameters of
various horse populations enabled the estimating of differences between the
genetic groups and choosing the way of their genetic improvement. The
crossings in cattle and sheep breeding indicated the possibility of
increasing the meat and milk production by means of this method.
