Summary: The aim of biotransformation research is to develop the
continuous processes to produce some industrial important compounds. The
chemical engineering concept in biotransformations research was to design
optimal bioreactor for this purpose, by integration of biotransformation,
biocatalyst and bioreactor type. The biotransformations catalyzed by
soluble-immobilized as well as immobilized biocatalysts were studied. The
following topics were investigated: - the bioreactor with immobilized
glucose isomerase - the kinetics of enzyme oil hydrolyse and esterification
of oleic acid in enzyme membrane reactor - the synthesis of L-terc.leucin
in enzyme membrane reactor - the enantioselective oxido-reduction catalyzed
by enzyme. The separation of glucose/fructose mixture which could be
integrated with glucose isomerization was studied. The immobilized glucose
isomerase wholle cellls were prepared. The production of glucose isomerase
as well as production of alcohol dehydrogenase are currently investigated.

Research goals: The goals of the BIOTRANSFORMATIONS/BIOREACTORS
research have been development and optimization of continuous processes
catalyzed by biocatalysts as well as the production process of the
biocatalysts. The project results throw more light on the fundamental
technical knowledge on the core of the biotechnological process and the
biocatalyst production process itself. This knowledge can be applied in
chemical as well as in faramaceutical industry.
