Summary: This research presents the investigation of the degree of food and water contamination by toxic components e.g. pesticides, metals, mycotoxin, Aspergillus flavus mould, the well-known aflatoxin producers. Concentration of certain contaminants and their undesirable effects were studied within in vivo systems.

Research goals: The goal of this research was to determine the presence and contamination degree of raw materials, food and humane material by pesticides, aflatoxin producing fungi, aflatoxin and metals. As regards pesticides priority was given to the investigation of organochloric insecticides within in vivo systems (in rats) and to food products. The degree of food contamination by the mould Aspergillus flavus, the well-known aflatoxin producers, and the contamination of raw materials, necessary for food production, were also studied. In the group of heavy metal was studied mercury. Several other elements whose importance has not yet been confirmed e.g. Cd,Al,As, and the essential elements that are toxic when present in bigger quantity were also studied. The research of food and foodstuff was done in the region of Slavonia, the major food producer in Croatia.
