Summary: In former Yugoslavia and the Socialist Republic of Croatia
there existed three forms of farmland ownership: social, cooperative and
private ownership. Private ownership of farmland was limited to 10 hectares
by the so-called agrarian maximum. For a long period of time the demand
for agricultural and food products was greater than the supply. A large
number was limited and this branch of economy was not competitive on the
foreign markets. Because of these and other conditions neither management
for marketing were sufficiently applied and developed. After the social
and economic changes of 1990, preference was given to market economy.
Unfortunately, one part of Eastern Croatia (Slavonia and Baranja) is still
under occupation. This is a limiting factor of larger supply and demand as
well as of the application of management and marketing.
Keywords: management, marketing, agricultural and food system, market, Slavonia and Baranja, Croatia, Eastern Croatia
Research goals: The aim of this research is the application of
management and marketing in the agricultural and food system in Slavonia
and Baranja. Management and marketing are modern methods of managing the
production and market. Expected results The limiting factors of
achieving better results are: (1) a relatively slow process of
transformation of socially-owned enterprises; (2) war conditions in Eastern
Slavoia; and (3) the lack of skilled personnel trained in management and
marketing. Activities within the project The majority of researchers
are very active. The papers published belong to two categories: a)
theoretical, b) empirical The majority of papers are interdisciplinary in
character and cover agronomic, economic, legal and other aspects. The
research team will actively participate in the process of denationalization
(both from the theoretical and pragmatic points of view).
