Summary: In order to get basic parameters of drying hazelnuts
severalresearch were carried out and equations of drying were calculatedin
examined conditions. The equations for the calculation ofhazelnut drying
duration are shown in several versions for theconditions that most commonly
occur in practice.

Summary: Damage to grains occurs because of the high level
odmechanization of certain working operations in handling grainsthrough all
the stages of production. Also, by applying newfinishing methods enabling
increase of digestibility, the dynamicresistance of the grain changes. The
breakage in the totalquantity increases with the grains passing through a
series oftransport devices.
The work compares the dynamic resistance of the maize grainHybrid Bc
492 in standard drying method with dynamic grainresistance after applying
the "cooking" technique with perforatedand nonperforated pericarp of the
grain.
In investigating the dynamic resistance and the potential ofgenetic
resistance of maize grain a device specially made forthis purpose was used.
The device can stimulate kineticconditions affecting the grain in machine
harvesting, duringtransport, in storage, etc.

Summary: The paper presents the results of the research the aim of
which was to establish the difference in energy needed and the quality of
corn grain treated by cooking (heating) before drying, from the method
generally used today by treating dry grains with heat in order to increase
utilization of food. In the process of treatment it is necessary to add
water and heat or mechanical energy. Treating grains with heat before
drying saves energy because it is not necessary to evaporate subsequently
added water from grains.

Summary: Analsis of energy worth of food production informs us on
bad usage of submitted energy. The reason is the intention for crop
increase and decrease of human work by using mechanisation, increased feed
of plants, plant protection and conservation of unripe crops. From 1940 to
1970 the relationship between obtained food energy and energy submitted for
production (input:output) has decreased in USA from 1:4 to 1:2,82 and in
France from 1:3 to 1:0,82. The increase of energy needs for modern
agriculture has grown 17 times during the last thirty years and in France
in 1975 it made 9,7 % of total energy usage of the country.

Summary: Adiabatic drying process is described. Drying conditions
cousedby sudden change of humidity and high production rate arepresented.
Drying model based on linear approximation of constantdryers curves is
given. A control system based on the model ispresented. Practical
measurement results, obtained from agravitational drier with two drying
zones without air circulationand in condition of increased production,
controlled by aproportional controller, are given process control can
beimproved. The presented model in spite of some difficulties thatcan
follow during the modell fitting phase.

Summary: In last few years new machines have appeared on the
Europeanmarket which perforate shell corn kernels with needles and thismake
the drying easier. The first experiments showed thatperforated corn kernels
dry faster than unperforated ones. Toverify this, tests were carried out in
laboratory drier. Bothperforated and unperforated shell corn kernels were
tested. Thepurpose of experiment was to simulate the real process
whichtakes place in big drivers. The experiment was carried out on
tendifferent hybrids. Drying took place in the laboratory drier,with the
possibility to regulate.

Shell kernels were perforated with "hedge-hog" tool with 589needles.
Perforated and unperforated kernels were dried in thelaboratory drier under
the same conditions. Statistical treatmentof data resulted with exponential

Summary: In this paper was described results of the investigations
of different grain quality, which has different thermal treatment before
drying process. The investigations was provided on the corn hybrid Bc 492.
Results whown significantly differences between content of lime and
digestible protein on corn kernel in depend of preparation treatments. For
example, lime on dried corn kernel is 21.596 %, but lime on corn kernel
which are in hydrothermal treatment is 60.9 %. Digestible protein on dried
corn kernel is 6.304 %, and on corn kernel which are in hydrothermal
treatment is 6.75 %.

Summary: Apple slices were dried in laboratory drier. Used were
apple fruits of variety Božičnica, harvested at different cultivating
areas. Božičnica is our old autochtonous variety, with no available data on
drying.Fresh apple fruits were peeted, cored and used as antioxidant, and
slices were immersed for 3 min. Slices were batch dried in two phases. In
first phase air temperature was 92 - 140 C and 70 - 80 C in second phase.
Air speed was approximately 2.0 m/s in first phase, and 1.85 m/s in second
phase. Average drying time in first phase was 65 min, and 105 min in second
phase. Apple slices were dried to average water content of 16.73 percent.

Summary: Rehydrating corn kernel of hybrid Bc 492 from 11 % to 30 %
by adding water was effective in reducing breakage susceptibility. The
extent to wich breakage susceptibility was reduced varied with the amount
of moisture added in a single rehydration method. Breakage susceptibility
values for the rehydrated corn were approsimately same with initial
breakage levels at the real high moisture content. (30 % w.b.)

Summary: Analysis of change in test weight per hectolitre of corn
hybrid Bc 492 was organized in ten groups according to humidity level. Test
weight per hectolitre in fresh and dried corn samples was determined with
Schopper test weight apparatus, according to methodics of "Pravilnik" (8).
Test weight of corn in fresh samples ranged from 55,50 to 71,45 kg per
hectolitre and moisture content varied between 17,88 and 30,02 percent (wet
basis WB). After drying test weight was unevenly reduced with differences
in test weight ranging between 0,55 and 7,55 kg per hectolitre, reduction
of test weight can not be expressed with mathematical equations.

Summary: The paper describes the analysis of bulk density of
Rapeseed, type "Silvia", before and after drying. At the basis Repeseed
moisture of 10,8 % the Angle of slide was at 27,5. But the Rapeseed
moisture of 4,8 %, the Angle of slide was 26,2. By the same basic Rapeseed
moisture of 10,8 % the Angle of inclination was at beginning 7,5, for the
greater past was 9,3 and by the end was 11,3. By the Rapeseed moisture of
4,8 % the Angle of inclination was at beginning 9,1, the greater past was
13,9, and by the end was 16,9.

Summary: In last few years new machines have appeared on the
Europeanmarket which perforate shell corn kernels with needles and thismake
the drying easier. The first experiments showed thatperforated corn kernels
dry faster than unperforated ones. Toverify this, tests were carried out in
laboratory drier. Bothperforated and unperforated shell corn kernels were
tested. Thepurpose of experiment was to simulate the proces which
takesplace in big drivers. The experiment was carried out on tendifferent
hybrids. Drying took place in the laboratory drier,with the possibility to
regulate:
1. output aerflow (m/s)
2. input temperature of drying air (řC)
Shell kernels were perforated with "hedge-hot" tool with 589needles.
Perforated and unperforated kernels were dried in thelaboratory drier under
the same conditions. Staticticaltreatment of data resulted with exponential
equations for ratedrying for both perforated and unperforated kernels of
tendifferent hibrids.

Summary: The work treats of researches into initial appearance of
fluidization varying within a grain layer (bed) subjected to drying. By
measuring the working air fluidization inducing velocity in a layer it has
been established that its level also depends on different thickness of
drying material on the drying grain properties. By changing the mentioned
characteristics, the fluidization point also changes. On a laboratory
dry-kiln model the extent of all the consequential factors have been
measured, especially, as the essential element, the diminishing pressure
drop in a material layer. Based on the results of these measurements, as
well as on a theoretical analysis of the process, the volume and porosity
of the fluidized layer has been estimated. With a veiw to enable the
application of the pattern of the "working" air streaming through a layer
of biological materijal, it was indispensable to exchange a grain for some
of the common geometrical forms; in this case sphericality has been chosen,
that is, the coefficient of the adaptability of a body to a ball. The
primary research into forty-eight samples of different initial drying
velocity levels (0.8; 1.1; 1.3 m/s) as well as of air temperature levels
(85; 110; 130 C) with the varying initial moisture of the samples, had
develooped parallelly with primary researches. Because of the diminished
sizes of the grains the level of the biological materijal changed its
thickness and its porosity. In these drying conditions a linear change of
the layer thickness depending on the moisture of the materijal has been
established. The work may also serve as a basis for the construction of
industrial dry-kilns, as well as to equip them with measuring and
regulating equipment. A mathematical model of the interdependence of the
mentioned dimensions for the establishing of the initial fluidiyation point
has been proposed, as well as an introduction of additional dimensions of
interdependence of the layer pressure drop diminishment and the "working"
airflow velocity into automatic system for the coplete control of the
industrial maize dry-kilns.
