Summary: The researches dealing with all the important features about the economy in the County of Varaždin in the crossing from XIX to XX century have been done and they still are in progress (demographic characteristics, economy-industry and handicraft, banking, traffic, agricultural production, breakdown of the old and formation of the new economic and social relations). This is the period when all the important economic and social processes were taking place. They had a great influence upon the change of the economic structure in this region as well as in the whole Croatia and Slavonia. The County of Varaždin was the region where all these processes were appearing at full rate with all the problems and consequences, and that is the reason shy they are intereasting for the research. The facts which have already been brought and they will bring furthermore the new conceptions dealing with the economy of this region as well as with the economy of the whole Croatia and Slavonia.

Research goals: The aim of the research was to explore the economic conditions in the County of Varaždin in the second half of the XIX and at the beginning of the XX century, considering that some fragments have been explored till now, it was suggested (and accepted) to the complex research of this subject. The researchers made evaluation that such a research would present very important contribution to the research of the economic history of Croatia and Slavonia in the crossing period from the XIX to the XX ct. The interes that had led to the research was confirmed by the research itself. The processes that were taking place at the end of the XIX ct had a great influence to the economic and social realtions in the County of Varaždin as well as in the whole Croatia and Slavonia. All these processes were explored and presented in the published works by which the aim of the research of this subject was realised.
