Summary: This research is a continuation of research into the
present state of arable land and economy in the Republic of Croatia and
Slavonia and Baranja with particular reference to th air and water regime.
It is also a continuation of research on the effects of land consolidation
schieved in Slavonia and Baranja before 1988. The needs, possibilities and
economic preconditions for the future land development by means of land
consolidation will also be determined.
Keywords: land consolidation, cultural practices, reallocation of holdings
Research goals: Land protentional is inadequately utilized in the
Republic of Croatia and in Slavonia and Baranja, and negative tendencies
with regard to the hectarage of arable land are also present. 3.306.837
hectares of arable land in the Republic of Croatia is still split into
0.18 hectare units. 3-5% of productive land is taken up by unnecessary
boundaries and the average exploitation of the genetic potential of crop
varietise is only 30.60%. The results of this research show that land
improvement could lead to the achievement of the following results in the
next medium term period. - The hectarage of agricultural enterprises in
this area would increase on the average by 27%, that is the range of
increas would be 1-50%, - The hectarage with a stable water and air regime
would increase by 50% in comparison with the situation before land
consolidation. Y Fallow land and untilled arable land would be reduced to
only 10% of the original hectarage. Y The yield of staple crops would be
increased by 30-100% with a parallel decrease in production costs by
20-50%. -This would create hectarage necessary for the production of sugar
beet since this hectarage in now insufficient in the Republic of Croatia.
