Summary: Project fully met all the foreset scientifical and other goals as: 1) gerontogogy was sistemized as a distinctive scienfitifal discipline and was included in the regular study of pedagogy at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Zagreb, 2) programmes for education of elderly people were made, 3) programmes were evaluated empirically at the Open University during three years, 4) cooperation with Sweden was established in initiative for creation of homes in Croatia to elderly people from foreign countries, thanks to the participation of academician Suad Efendić from Swedish University. This enables a new project which could stimulate a number of Croatian emigrants to come back to Croatia and would also serve to help populating Croatian islands. For all the above it is suggested to the Ministry of science and technology to grant the new project, "Modern homes for the elderly on Croatian islands with international cooperation".

Research goals: General goal of the research was to sistemize gerontogogy as a distinctive science which deals with possibilities and limitations of elderly population's education and improvement of their life quality. In addition, production of a basic programme of the University of the Third Age at Open University in Zagreb was attempted. Both goals were entirely achieved as gerontogogy was structured as a distinctive science and the programme for the University of the Third Age made. Since the Ministry agreed to continue with the research for two years a goal additionally declared was also reached: University of the Third Age was set up empirically confirming conclusions of the research.
