Summary: Dogmatic pedagogy and idealised teaching of history
which aredeeply engaged in the modeling of all-sided personality
forself-managing society have lost their scientific dignity.Pedagogy has
separeted itself from the teaching practice whichwas, on the other side,
guided by "common sense education" withno scientific foundations.
Ideologically based teaching ofhistory has not enabled it to develop into
scientific system, altough history instuction is the factor which should
enable anindividual to immerse into the historic world if the
communitywhich, after all, should be a task of education as a whole.
In teaching of history a creative art of teacher is important. This act
is a creative one while the analiysis of teaching comesto the scientific
territory of methodics. In such instructionpupils should be introduced to
the meaning of historic laws thatwould, together with philosophical and
sociological knowledge, help them to orientate themselves in a pluralistic
socielty aswell as to participate in future planning. From learning
thefacts in history instruction it is necessary to pass to theeducation of
methodical skills, while historic content should bestructured according to
the genetic-structural history payingattention to different philosophical
theories (priority oflogical over historical, retrospective study of
history, etc.)

Title: TEACHING BASED OF PROBLEM SOLVING AND INDICATORS OF SUCCES
OF SUCH TEACHING OF HISTORY IN THE SECOND GRADE OF THE SECONDARY SCHOOL

Summary: The author describes an experiment in which the
efficiency ofproblem teaching was conducted in the second grade of
thesecondary school. The author used the problem material which hehimself
constructed and he also used the textbook. The studentshad a themee "South
Slavic people under the Turkish, Venetian andHapsburg rule". On the basis
of reliable tests the data wasstatistically analysed and the conclusion was
that thesestudents, although using the problem teaching approach for
thefirst time, achieved the same results as those who were taught ina
traditional way. The students of the experimental groupachieved better
results, though, in understanding of socialprocesses. On the basis of the
previous tests the authorconcluded that, by excerising and by improving the
problemmaterial, the students could improve their results.
Retesting showed thatthe students of the experimental groupremembered
the material better but it was also noticed that somecategories of
knowledge were more easily forgotten. Category of"understanding of
historical material" was badly memorized by thestudents of both groups
while the categories of "giving titlesand establishing conversation" and
"text analysis" were wellrememberd by both groups. The students in the
experimental groupbetter remembered the material under the category
"knowledge ofsocial process" then the students in the control group.
By multiple regressive analysis of the final test it wasdiscovered that
the best indicators of the successful learning ofhistory of such students
were the understanding of material, previous knowledge and general mark in
the first grade. The nextindicator, among which was the intelligence did
not have muchinfluence on the successful learning of history in the
secondgrade. This means that the most important thing is to developcertain
intellectual abilities which enable all the students tosuccessfully master
the historical material.
The author concludes that teaching based on problem solving
isjustifiable in the secong grade of the secondary school.
