Theoretic aspect of individualization is studied in the firstpart of the book. Second part of the book deals with the problem of individualizedgroup work with preschool children. Basic model of work(teaching) is based on the mathematics curriculum and children'spsyho-physical abilities. Third part is an explication of general approach to empiricalpart of the research. In the forth part "Experiment and its Results" the method ofteaching and results of measuring have been described. The fifth chapter "Interpretation ofthe results" deals with theagreement and disagreement concerning understading of the notionof number and the methods of working in kindergarten.

Summary: There are many interacting disabilities which cause learning disabilities of many types that can have many students in all stages of their education. This article is about a research performed in 1991. and 1992. The study group comprised of 47 teachers in 3 elementary schools near Split; and 1851 students of the first to the fourth grade in 73 classes. (Of the 73 classes 55 were in town and 18 in villages.) The goal of the research was to identify : 1) The attitude of theachers towards the hanicapped students, 2) The opininion of teachers about the type of handicap which causes learning disabilities, 3) The curriculum developed by teachers to provide the individualized attention required by students with learning disabilities. The basic hypothesis of the research are : 1) The attitude of teachers toward students with learning disabilities is very important factor in the students education ; 2) Very often teachers believe the learning disability of a student is caused by an irrelevant factor, although it is caused by a serious handicap ; 3) The existing curriculum for individualization is inadequate for students with learning disabilities; 4) Students with learning disabilities are constantly dependent on a teachers in the area of mathematics. Therefore, a teacher must give special emphasis to mathematics programme for such students. (Individualized approach is required all the time.) In conclusion the results of the research confirmed the hypothesis. Therefore, we conclude the curriculum and teaching methods for many students with learning disiabilities mus be change in order to improve educational outcomes.

Summary: The article presents some results of the research included in theproject Students Independence in Educational Process. The purpose of this paper is to point out the elements (the main determinants) of the process of getting independent and the independence itself from the point of view of pedagogy and sociology of education. This is a contribution to the theoretical definition and empirical elaboration of the crucial term in the science of education. The components of the independence and the process of becoming independent are described according to the student opinion which is based on their formers experience and knowledge. A group of students (N=71) from the Teachers Training College in Split has been tested. The examinees have stated many characteristics of an independent person. They stressed those features declaring themselves as independent or dependent persons. The analysis of the test has shown that the students have listed many features of the notion "independence", three quarters of then think that they are partly independent, but every fifth in the group thinks that he (she) is not an independent or not show difficulty of their situation. These results are compared and linked with similar results of some other investigations so the synthesis is possible. Getting independent has proved to be a universal tendency.
Keywords: Process of getting independent, independence of the student, independence.

Title: Pespective in education - children with special needs

    Authors:
    Tomaš, Ana (91196)
    Journal: Školski vjesnik
    Number: 1
    ISSN: 0037-654x
    Volume: 44

Summary: The article deals with the problems of children with special needs in elementary school. Two investigations have been realized. 1. Information concerning different aspect of fears and dreams has been collected from each child in the group of 79 students from the firs to the fourth grade of elementary school. An average of 4 varieties of fears in each student of this group have been identified. 2. Information concerning the basic reason for including some students in remedial instruction was collected from the group of 73 teachers. The teachers have listed 24 different reasons. On the basis of theory of education and this research the term "students with special needs" must be determined. There are two categories: those with impairments and those who may be called talented. On the other side each student is a special need student and that is why individualized educational program is prefered.
Keywords: Children with special needs, remedial instruction.
