Summary: Croatia as a demographic phenomenon. Low population increase and structure distortion. Changes of geographic density and spatial distribution. Discrepancy between demographic transition and socio-economic development. Regional examples. Migrational balance of districts and communes. Definition and realization of the population policy in Croatia. Some comparisons with European countries.

Research goals: Redefinition and research the demographic process in Croatia independently of the political implications and of the State territorial division. A research to a new image of the demographic changes in the after war period of Croatia in order to built corresponding population policy. Analysis of all relevant demographic components (in process and structure), especially in the period between the two last censuses, is to be expected. The main target should be to look at to previse and to point out the negative demographic trends on the state level aswell as on the regional ones to point out a functional population policy. That research should be basic and needful hypothesis for all kinds of planning social, political, economic and regional as well. The migrational complex should be the subject of the research too (in correlation of ex Yugoslavia space). All that is going to be the hypothesis of a demographic synthesis in frame of an adequate population policy (what should be supplied the country by the demographic contingent needed in the future).
