Summary: In this project, the genealogy of models of interculturalism and multiculturalism, and the transfer of theories, policies and educational practices is being researched. The research is of the scientific-developmental and the theoretical-empirical type. It uses the methodology of the problem oriented comparative analisys. Basically, it researches the scientific theories, the conceptual and operational models and policies o interculturalism, and the programmes of intercultural education. It studies the international organisations and institutions, the regional organisations and institutions, the selected overseas and European countries and the Republic of Croatia. It is expected of this research to contribute to the development of the scientific knowledge in the area of interculturalism in general, and, based on the world attainments, to the scientifically founded interculturalism in Croatia, as well as to the modernisation of the educational practise.

Research goals: The general aim of this project is the research of the relations between scientific theories, policies and practices in the area of interculturalism/multiculturalism, and the research into the possibilities of their transfer into the specific life spheres. In realisation of this, the specific aims are: - to establish the origins, development and transfer of concepts of policies of interculturalism/multiculturalism in the fields of education, media and business; - to establish their scientific foundations and consistencies; to explore and evaluate intercultural/multicultural characteristics in education, media and business communications in Croatia; - to establish and propose the most appropriate models for intercultural/multicultural education in Croatia; - toanalyse, compare and evaluate intercultural/multicultural policies and educational models in nine countries and three international/regional organisations; - to do the empirical analysis and assessment of intercultural/multicultural dispositions of secondary school pupils in Croatia, especially of the children of refugees, and displaced persons, and of children of national minorities; - to analyse and evaluate the curricula and the teaching materials in elementary and secondary schools in Croatia; - to analyse and evaluate the contents of media programmes and information processing in Croatia; - to analyse and evaluate the multilingual and interactional patterns and practices among the business elite in Croatia.
