Summary: Starting from insufficiency of only the macroeconomic policy for structural adjustment, this project analyses the role of technological policy in this process and applies the latest comprehensions to the development policy and tecnological problems of Croatia. The project is based on a three-level research. The theoretical level explores the relation between technology and economy in the conditions of structural transformation of techno- economic system. This aspect includes especially transformation from Fordistic into the so-called Post-Fordistic manner of production and organization, and consequences of information intensiveness of current economies and their transformation in the knowledge based economy. The level of applicable analysis explores the implications of the new techno-economic system for competitiveness and structural adjustment of Croatia. The following problems have been investigated in this sequence: interactive character of technological development and its implications in policy, technology diffusion, human resources in technological development of Croatia and education of employees, new forms of enterprise, organization and strengthening of technologically based strategy of enterprise, as well as techno- totality and its consequences to the approach of Croatia to I&R and to the information net-works. The last phase of research discloses on the basis of previous discoveries, the implications of research to development policy.

Research goals: Starting with disclosed level of comprehension, this project will in the case of acceptance, function in the Republic of Croatia on two levels. The first one is theoretically-empirical and the second conceptually-practical. The first denotes the aim of project to contribute to improvement of native economic science and creation of native economy of technological changes on the basis of latest theoretical comprehensions, and empirical work based on the research of development problems of Croatia. That would reduce and even cancel time lag which was previously pointed out. The output of research in this level will be presented in the form of standard scientific output in social sciences (articles in international journals, papers on international conferences and participation in international workshops ). The second aim of the project is to contribute directly to the improvement of technological policy of the Republic of Croatia. This aim results from the character of research ( applied ) and from the character of the field itself ( technological policy ). The aim of the project on this level is to function as the source of comprehension and the generator of the contemporary understanding of the problems of technological development and technological policy. The project should directly contribute to the advancement of practical process of formulating and bringing up policies in which , the technological component is present. As such, it should not restrict itself in its communication to the direct bearers of policy, but function as a factor of influence on the broader level ( forums, public debates, newspaper and TV discussions ).
