Summary: The project is concerned with the humanistic
philosophy, with the development of genealogical model of growth of
science, with the role of metaphor in the everyday and scientific
language, and with the consequences to concept of rationality, all in
lines with postpositivistic trends in the philosophy of science and our
own insights into the meaning of a human act. Study of Aristotle's
understanding of relation between theoretical and practical philosophy,
and in this context, some aspects of Bošković's philosophy, is going to be
finished by inquiry of Aristotle's and modern theories of meaning.

Research goals: The beginnings of the science are closely
connected with thephilosophy, and the proper investigation of the history
ofscience is impossible without taking into considerationinfluences of
philosophy. But, to the same extent was the character of philosophy shaped
by the growth of science. Today's philosophyof science, in contrast to the
past neopositivistic schools,inclines to the conviction that in founding
theory of scienceconstant appeal to the insights in development of science
isrequired. The postpositivistic age of the philosophy of sciencejust
enjoies the fruits of that "historic turn". In the realm of the
philosophy of history of science, that is to say, in explaining the growth
of science, the failure ofall available models is observed -
socio-psychological as well asthe evolutionary-biological. In the
realm of the philosophy of language, especiallyscientific language, it's
metaphoricity is revealed. In thebroader sense, the role and significance
of the extra-logicalthinking (visual, metaphorical) is examined. In
the light of described "historic turn" in the philosophyof science, there
is obvious need for a new theory of scientificknowledge, which, as an
interdisciplinary enterprise, necessarilytakes into account the results of
science and its history.Science as a phenomenon is approached from
different sides, andresults so obtained are synthetizied. The aim of
the research is the enhancement of understandingof science, of mechanism
of it's growth, and of relations betweenscience and it's intellectual and
historical context. Primarygoal of this investigation is a broadening of
the philosophicalknowledge and possible application of that knowledge in
thescientific practice. And last but not least, correctunderstanding of
science is necessary for right science policyand for defining the place
and role of science in the education,cultural policy, and the society in
general.
