Summary: The fundamental question still actual within the
historico-philosophical study of the Renaissance and the Renaissance
philosophy is the question: is it legitimate to consider the Renaissance
way of thinking (which manifested itself mainly in the Renaissance
philosophy) as the birth-place of that "novum" (a new world-approach, the
new way of mans' relating to the world manifested primarily in the modern
science), which will be determinant for the new age, or this period of
the spiritual history of Europe, can be seen only as a phase of
decomposition of the traditional system of world-interpretation, with
only a few elements of the "novum", which appear in it. This question is
justified by the fact that the Renaissance, according to the results of
even recent studies, is determined through the category of continuity as
well as through the category of discontinuity. The most appropriate way
of answering this question is the elaboration of those element in
Renaissance philosophy, which indicate the transformation of the
traditional, on the Aristotelian philosophy based world-view. These
elements are to be found even in the works of some of the most important
croatian Renaissance philosophers. So the main subject of this study was
the identification and analysis of the different aspects of the
world-view transformation in the works of those philosophers and their
comparison with the essential characteristics of the new world-approach,
which took place in the middle of the 17th century, in order to find out
the answer to the above mentioned question regarding the Renaissance.
With the undertaken research the works of Andrija Dudić ("De cometarum
significatione commentariolus" and his corespondance), Frane Petrić
("Nova de universis philosophia", especially "Pancosmia"), Federicus
Grisogono ("Speculum astronomicum and "De modo collegiandi...") and Juraj
Dubrovčanin ("Peripateticae disputationes") are to be elaborated.
Keywords: Transformation, World-view, the new-age (modern) science, Renaissance, concept of the infinity
Research goals: The primary objective of this research was to
identify and examine in detail the main aspects of the process of the
world-view transformation, as they are present in the works of some of the
most important Croatian Renaissance philosophers (Frane Petrić, Andrija
Dudić, Juraj Dubrovčanin and Federicus Grisogono), in order to find out
the specific features of those aspects by every particular Renaissance
philosopher and to obtain, on the basis of a comparative analysis of them,
a precise insight into the general characteristics of the transformation
of the world-view based on the Aristotelian philosophy, within the
Croatian Renaissance philosophy. This analysis should finally lead to a
conclusion concerning the relation of the elements of this transformation
(and its real meaning) with the new world-approach (in the form primarily
of the new science) installed towards the end of the 17th century, which
will be determinative for the modern age. The secondary objective of the
research was to obtain an objective insight into the real contribution of
Croatian Renaissance philosophers to the process of decomposition of the
traditional world-view and building up a new one. The objectives of the
research defined in this way are justified by the fact, that until now no
such detailed and systematic study of this problem was undertaken.
Furthermore, it was not possible, so far, to evaluate the contribution of
Croatian philosophers to the aforementioned process because of the lack of
a comparative analysis of their works with the works of their
contemporaries, especially such as Kopernikus, Kepler and Galileo.
