Summary: Given the total population, Croatia had during the Second
World War immense total human losses (estimates of 300000 persons). The
problem has not yet been systematically researched in Croatian
historiography. The goal of the project is to gradually research the
archives and other relevant sources. We intend to establish a questionnaire
for each lost person, which would provide us with basic information: name
of victim, cause and way of his or her death. The results of the research
will be published as articles in extended studies. Special monographs will
be our final goal.
Keywords: Croatia, the Second World War, population, human losses
Research goals: The main goal of the research is to establish a
"data bank" of total human losses on the territory of Croatia during the
Second World War, regardless of who or what caused the death (Germans,
Italians, Hungarians, Serbian Chetniks, Partisans and their allies). Our
project will also encopass the citizens of Croatia perished in other
territories. The establishment of real human loss during the Second World
War is the basis for the study of demographic losses of the population of
Croatia during the same period. Other information about the project.
