Summary: The project consists of relatively autonomous critical
evaluations of available literature and published historical records upon
history of Hapsburg, Venetian and Ottoman countries in the Modern Age (15th
- early 20th centuries), including particular interest for (a) demographic,
(b) spacial, (c) social, (d) economic, (e) cultural, (f) religious, (d)
political, as well as some other point of reference. Further phase of the
research project includes interpretations of interdependences of different
phenomena and processes within the framework of the comparative history of
Habsburg, Venetian and Ottoman countries in the Modern Age. Having in mind
that those structures of power, including their prevailing cultural
patterns, meet each other for a longer period of time in the Croatian area,
the approepriate research interest will be focused to dominant currents in
the Croatian history within the framework defined by the Hapsburg, Venetian
and Ottoman interests and influences.
Keywords: The Hapsburg Monarchy, Venetian Republic, The Ottoman Empire, Croatia, Modern Age, demography, economy, culture, religion, state, European semi-periphery, refeudalization, migrations, protomodernization, national integration, national ideology
Research goals: The main goals are: (a) from the scientific point of
view, better and more appropriate curriculum at the Chair for the Modern
European and World History of the Historical Department of the Faculty of
Philosophy in Zagreb; (b) the contribution to the development of the
comparative history of those three civilization frameworks and (c) the
contribution to researches of the European context of the Modern Croatian
history. Studies and articles, as well as lectures, focused upon those
goals have to be the most important outcome of the project. They could be
eventually put together in one volume.
