Summary: The aim of the project is to thoroughly and systematically
"comb through" the materials in the Vatican archives covering the long
period from the 16th to 20th century, in order to enable the Croatian
historians the research work on the complete history of Croatian people,
especially its Church and the relations between the Othodox Church and the
Catholic Church. The plan is to print the archival material in several
large series: Vatican secret archive. The reports of the bishops in the
Kingdom of Croatia and The historical Archive of the Congregation for
spreading the religion and the kingdom of Croatia. A number of studies
intend to deal with the role of the Catholic Church in spiritual and
cultural-civilizational development of the Croatian people.
Keywords: Catholic Church, Catholic movement of the Croats, movement for union, history of Croatian people, Kingdom of Croatia, diocesan ralationship, dioceses in the Kingdom of Croatia
Research goals: In defining its final aim the project starts from
the second fundamental fact: Vatican archives treasure rich resources
important for the history of Croatian people, so the intention of the
investigators is as follows: 1. to begin a systematic research and
publishment of the Vatican archival material from 16th to 20th century in
order to enable the research workers a complete view of the national
history; 2. simultaneously with publishing the archival materials
fellow-workers on the project will work on analytical studies on
particular questions of the national history; 3. to confront the uncritical
and fragmentary contributions of some Serbian historians with the complete
archival material, first of all materials on the relations between the
Othodox Church and Catholic Church in the Kingdom of Croatia; 4. to gather
and publish bibliography of contributions written so far on the basis of
the sources from the Vatican archive; 5. to connect the existing scientific
institutionsand individual researches through a relevant publication, so
they would not study only a few number of founds in the future while all
the other series of archival material remain unknown to our historians. Other information about the project.
