Summary: For generations Croatian emigrants create literary works inspired by the literary tradition of their mother land. This literary production played an important role in preserving the wealth of Croatian language. The third and the forth generation of Croatian emigrants in USA, Canada, Australia and South America bring up writers whose works are written bilingually or in English, French or Spanish language. The project defines the way this literature is bound to the mother literature and how much it is a reflection of the spirit of Croatian cultural tradition. Special attention is given to the works of Croatian writers in exile.

Research goals: The project is concerned with valorization, revalorization andsystematization of literary works of Croatian emigrants. Bydefining the size and value of this literary production, itsplace in Croatian literary history will be determined. Theresults of the project will offer the basic source for writing acomplete history of Croatian literature. The work on the project will result in publicating of studies onliterary opus of particular emigrant community and monographic elaboration of singular writer. The result of the project will be presented on conferences in Croatia and abroad. Croatian emigrant's literature will also be researched in the frame of postgraduate and doctorial studies and will be implemented in the study programme of Croatian language and literature.
