Summary: The article describes distinguishing characteristics of
both of the Čakavian local speeches: vanished popular speech (speech of the
common people) of the croatian inhabitants of the historical City of
Rijeka, and still living speech of the inhabitants of Sušak (a part of) the
city which today makes a part of the City of Rijeka. Both of these two
speeches belong to the different types of the Čakavian dialect of the
Čakavian vernacular (both parts of the Croatian language.

Summary: Taking the evidence which was collected during the field
trip research in 1985 into account, the article separates distingushing
linguistic characteristics of the local speech of Klana. Quoted and argued
for on several different levels, these clearly point to the indisputable
conclusion that the local speech of Klana belongs to the Čakavian
vernacular of the Croatian language. In opposition to these facts stands
unproved popular conviction which assigns this speech to the Kajkavian
(dialect) vernacular of the Croatian -Slovenian language, that is.
