Summary: Using the band filtration technique of speech sounds the
spectral
optimals of Croatian have been established. The auditive quality
of speech sounds was estimated according to their productivity
and auditive structure as well as according to the autonomy and
dispersiveness of their optimals: in all experints the vowels
have proved to be the most auditive, the fricatives less than
vowels, while the plosives proved to be the least auditive of
all speech sounds.

Summary: The question of the functional organization of speech and
language in the central nervous system and the problems of the
nerurological basis of these mechanisms are discussed. The
factors influencing the neurolinguistic organization of the

Summary: The analysis of the voice quality and speech after complete
laryngectomy was made. The quality of easophageal speech, speech
with the fistula and the speech with electro-acoustic aid were
assessed. It was found that the speech and voice with the fistula
is closer to normal speech then the others.

Number of references: 42

Summary: The review of research on speech production involving
temporal domain shows that despite the apparently immense
duration variation both in sounds and bigger units, certain
patterns of conditioning factors may be found, relating to the
various levels of the linguistic organization of a speech signal.
The elements of the patterning result from the planning and
execution of speech production.

Summary: The distances between the sounds as mental entities are
assessed. The results show that the constellation of sounds in
the mental space is of extremely different interdistances. These
distances only partly correspond with the known phonetic
quantifications. Consistency and sufficient consonance of the
data confirms the existence and measurableness of the sounds,
owing to which they are exactly speech and not linguistic
particles.

of sensori-motor mechanisms and anticipatory and autogenous

Summary: Questions concerning the realisation of the motor program
and compensatory mechanisms of articulatory organs are
considered. The variability of the speech segments is analysed
on a sample of multiple repetition of one utterance in three
different rates of articulation. It was shown that the variability
dininishes in the falowing order: sound, syllable, word,
utterance and that the variability for the normal rate is less
than for the slow or fast ones.

Summary: After a sketch of the language acquisition process, a
review ofthe research on the child's prenatal development is presented. The
author proposes that the notion mother-tongue be applied tothe language
spoken by the child acquired from the mother, starting from the prenatal
period. If the child is exposed tosome other language after birth, which
may eventually become thelanguage he/she speaks best, it should be refered
to as his/herfirst language.

Summary: A useful approach in the comparative phonology of
Slaviclanguages would be to take the set of universal phonetic
featureswhich languages implement in various linguistic ways. A
phoneticfeature which is not used phonologically by one Slavic languageor
dialect but is by another, even features responsible for'foreign' or
'dialect' Slavic accents, should be included in thedescription of each
language.

Summary: The meaning of sounds is defined as the position of a sound
in the space of some psychologically determined dimensions. On a sample of
209 university students, by means of semantic differential procedure, the
position of 30 Croatian phonemic sounds in the space of dimensions of
evaluation, potency and activity is explored. A great majority of relations
can be explained by articulatory-acoustic characteristics of sounds.
