Summary: A) Early Christian Latin hagiography on territory of the later Croatian medieval state is investigated as a link between Late Antiquity and Early Croatian culture. Croatian Latin hagiography throughout the Middle ages is studied, as well as Croatian hagiography in Glagolitic and Latin-script texts of 11-17th centuries, in the wider context of Slavic and Occidental European medieval literature. B) The literature of Croatian medieval visions and contrasts is studied, with regard to Slavic and Occidental texts. C) A comprehensive bibliography of biblical texts in Croatian Glagolitic missals and breviaries is prepared. This project was initiated by the International Biblical Comission for research and the reconstruction of the Old Slavonic Bible.

Research goals: Final goals of the project: A) to find, identify, study and publish Croatian Latin, Croatian Glagolitic and Croatian Latin-script hagiographical (martyrological, hagiographical and legendary) texts which form the basic and largest literary genre of Croatian and European Middle Ages. A monograph (probably in more volumes) about these texts is prepared; B) to make a survey (and prepare a monograph) of Croatian visions and contrasts as another large and significant genre in Croatian and European medieval literatures; C) to complete a bibliography of biblical texts in Croatian Glagolitic missals and breviaries in order to prepare a textual corpus for future textological research and reconstruction of the Croatian Glagolitic Bible. Thus elements of the original Cyrillo-Methodian Bible translation from Greek will be determined, as well as parts translated later from Occidental Latin sources.
