Summary: In Dalmatia during the Middle Ages and the Venetian era
therewerw no pharmacies and no medical schools. Thus Dalmatian townswere
obliged to employ immigrants as doctors and pharmacists. However, as the
number of doctors and pharmacists wasincompatible with the reqiurements of
the population, individualreligious orders, among whom were the
Franciscans, became engagedin healing and preparing medicines as a
secondary activity overand above their normal duties in the order. The
Franciscans, conforming to the rules of their order "Do not only live
foryourself but be useful to others", occupied themselves not onlywith the
spiritual welfare of their flock but also with theirphysical welfare so as
to alleviate their suffering here onearth. As there were no civilian
hospitals, hospices wereestablished and these were mainly charitable
institutions, someof which maintained a pharmacy within their organisation.

Title: ABSTRACT NOUNS REPRESENTED IN DRAWINGS IN THE PICTORIAL
DICTIONARY BY A.PUTTI
- Authors:
- Šimunković, Ljerka (48281)
Type of work: Referat
Language: talijanski
Summary: In his dictionary A.Putti showed many abstract nouns in
addition to the concrete. Since it was very difficult to represent the
abstract nouns in a drawing, Putti tried to solve the problem in the
following ways, 1.traditionally, representing the nouns which have been
displayed iconologically in the mythological motifs or in biblical ones, 2.
he used a completely original approach, in which he used his exeptional
imagination and drawing ability.

Title: THE ADMINISTRATIVE MEASURES AGAINST THE PLAGUE IN DALMATIA
IN THE 18th CENTURY
- Authors:
- Šimunković, Ljerka (48281)
Type of work: Referat
Language: talijanski
Summary: The Venetian Republic kept strict watch on what happened
not only at its frontiers, but also beyond them. Therefore, the duty of the
Magistrato alla salute, amongst other things, was to follow the spreading
of the infectious diseases, to determine the measures to be undertaken in
the case of danger of infection, and also the measures to be taken to
supress the infection on the territory of the Venetian Republic. For that
purpose, the Magistrato made use of the proclamations which were circulated
to all representatives of the Venetian government. In these proclamations
the Magistrato usually pointed out the territory in which the infection
broke out, who brought in the infection, the measures that should be
applied in that case, and measures against those who violated the sanitary
rules.
