Summary: Systematic research of early medieval art and architecture
in Split, during the paleocroatian period, based on the studies of
Pre-Romaneque buildings, historic sources in archives and existing
literature. It consists of: 1.Locating all early medieval sites in Split
area; 2.Individual thorough research and art-historic study of residential
buildings,churches,sculpture and minor arts from the early medieval
period; 3.A synthesis of the early medieval Split, concerning the
town-planning, residential and ecclesiastic architecture,sculpture,
epigraphic and linguistic material
Research goals: A thorough research of art and architecture in Split
(7th-11th cent.) as one of the most important sites for the study of the
early croatian period. Historiographic study could contribute to
1.accomplishing a series of monographs on early croatian buildings, which
should include also technical aspects of the reserarch 2.accomplishing a
synthesis on Split in the early croatian period,its art and architecture as
an important component for: 3. a new synthesis on the Pre-Romanesque (early
Croatian) art in Croatia. Other information about the project.
