Title: Croatian Musical Terminology. A Prolegomena to a Research
Project
- Authors:
- Gligo, Nikša (102736)
Journal: Arti musices
Number: 1
ISSN: 0587-5455
Volume: 23
Year: 1992
Pages: from 21 to 34
Language: hrvatski
Summary: Some suggestions on the researches are given on the basis
of the experiences in the "Handwoerterbuch der musikalischen Terminologie"
by H.H. Eggebrecht where the special accent is given to the history of
terms, what is not always possible with Croatian musical terms. Some
possible problems are explicated, primarly concerning the terms of the 20th
century music.

Title: Atonality
- Authors:
- Gligo, Nikša (102736)
Journal: Arti musices
Number: 2
ISSN: 0587-5455
Volume: 23
Year: 1992
Pages: from 99 to 112
Language: hrvatski
Summary: The term is defined through 12 definitions in original
languages and their precise translations in Croatian. The usage is analyzed
from the further sources. The meaning of the term is unprecise and it is
also interpreted in different ways. But other terms have not been broadly
accepted or they have still more unprecise meaning. Some further nuances in
the meaning are suggested, based on the differences between Croatian
equivalent -ost for international suffix -itet (-ity in English).

Language: hrvatski
Summary: The author, the linguistic adviser in the project, explains
the forming principles of the terms based on -tonal- with international
suffix -itet and Croatian suffiks -ost which cannot be always taken
synonimously with the international suffix. The article continues the
discussion opened in the monography "Atonality", published in "Arti
musices" 1992: 23/2, 101-112.

Summary: The Board for the standardization of the Croatian
terminology gives its answer to the opinion of Josip Silić, the linguistic
advisor of the project, about the word forming in Croatian language with
the suffixes -itet and -ost, concerning the present praxis in Croatian
language. This is the further contribution to the discussion about the
"atonality".

Title: Tonality

- Beiche, Michael
Journal: Arti musices
Number: 2
ISSN: 0587-5455
Volume: 23
Year: 1992
Pages: from 234 to 238
Language: njemački
Summary: This is the further contribution to the discussion
initiated by the terminological elaboration of "atonality". The
head-disposition of the term "tonality" published in Eggebrecht's
"Handwoerterbuch der musikalischen Terminologie" is here published for two
reasons: a) to warn about the unclear etymological origin of the term,
specially of its basis -tonal-; b) to present the matrix of the
terminological elaborations in Eggebrecht's "Handwoerterbuch...". The text
is published in original language (German) with precise translation into
Croatian.

- Krpan, Erika
Journal: Arti musices
Number: 2
ISSN: 0587-5455
Volume: 23
Year: 1992
Pages: from 239 to 249
Language: hrvatski
Summary: The term is first of all defined through eight definitions
at their original language (German, English, Croatian) with precise
translation into Croatian. The usage is analyzed from the further sources
and its meaning varies depending whether it is used in connection with
music, literature and/or arts. As it primarily originates from literature
and from arts, its usage in music varies from author to author, even when
it is used as the name for period or epoch.

Journal: Arti musices
Number: 1
ISSN: 0587-5455
Volume: 24
Year: 1993
Pages: from 133 to 148
Language: hrvatski
Summary: The term is defined through 13 definitions in original
languages (German, English, Croatian) with precise translations in
Croatian. The usage has been analyzed from the further sources. In spite of
its popularity the meaning of the term is variably interpreted between two
poles: a) the usage of folklore as national characteristic; b) regional
characteristics of various types which are not based on folklor material.
The special attention has been payed to the meaning of the term in the
so-called "ideology of national trend" in Croatian music between two world
wars.

Volume: 24
Year: 1993
Pages: from 299 to 314
Language: hrvatski
Summary: Although this term has been hardly used in Croatian
musicological literature, its meaning is very important for the
understanding of some changes in the relation between rhythm and meter in
the second half of the 19th century which caused some direct consequences
in the music of the 20th century (Schoenberg). The term is defined from 12
sources and the accent is put on the usage in Schoenberg's compositional
theory.

Summary: This is a term which practically does not exist in Croatian
terminology but its usage could be very useful, especially in the meaning
attained in the French music theory: a) the name for any vertical structure
which cannot be defined according to the criteria of functional, tonal
harmony. However, the other meanings of the term have also been researched
(b: in Milton Babbitt's twelve tone theory; c: in John Cage's compositional
theory) although they are unprecise and have not been broadly accepted.

Summary: The meaning of musical terms used in "Danica ilirska" are
here elaborated contextually and with the concordation of synonyms. The
results prove that these first attempts to found the modern Croatian
terminology before Kuhač are of very high quality from the musicological as
well as from the linguistic and socio-cultural point of view. The research
is the second attempt to view the development of Croatian musical
terminology in the historical perspective. (The first attempt was the
research of the organological terms from the Baroque period by Stanislav
Tuksar.)
