Summary: The research is based on the history of Croatian musical terms without pretending to give any normative recommandations for their usage. Outside of this project the organological terms from the Baroque period have already been researched. The research of terms from "Danica Ilirska" (1st half of 19th century) is also already finished. The research in progress is concerned with the terms used by Vjenceslav Novak and there is also an intention to research the terms used in "Neven". The rest of the terms from the 19th century (around Kuhač must also be researched, as well as some unknown documents from the 2nd half of 18th century. Also in progress is the research of contemporary theoretical terms, used in pedagogy and education. "A Terminological Guide Through the 20th Century Music" is also being prepared.

Research goals: The main goal of this project is the publication of "Dictionary of Croatian musical terms" in which the meaning and the history of all Croatian musicological and theoretical terms will be elaborated. Through the critical research of their usage some standards which do not exist in this segment of Croatian technical terms should be achieved. In this "Dictionary" should also be researched the meaning of the terms in English, German, French and Italian as their influence on Croatian musical terms is sometimes very suspicious and many foreign words are incorrectly used instead of the Croatian ones. The monographies (atonality, expressionism, nationalism in music, musical prose, aggregate), published in "Arti musices", and "A Guide through the 20th Century Music", which is just in progress, are the first steps toward this "Dictionary of Terms".
