Summary: The author seeks to answer questions concerning the
connection between iconography and ideology and the process by which a
national identity has been built in Croatia in the second half of the 20th
century. She analyses the political iconography presented on posters from
1941 to 1950. She also analyses some of the sub(contra)-cultural
manifestations whicha are part of the folk-culture. By focusing on
questions of "the tradition" as opposed to "imported trends", she found one
of the possible frames for analysing the image of the new Croatia, as
visualised from 1990 onwards.

Title: Between destruction and deconstruction. The preconditions
of Croatian ethnography of war
- Authors:
- Prica, Ines (167882)
Journal: Collegium anthropologicum
Number: 1
ISSN: 0350-6134
Volume: 19
Year: 1995
Pages: from 7 to 17
Number of references: 33
Language: engleski
Summary: The article with the complex scientific and social
preconditions of the Croatian war ethnography. Determined by its insider
position, but aimed to be put into the frame of international reference, it
has to cope with the scale of critical voices. Its critical orientation
has, thus, been caught between the anticipation of the possible ideological
traps of various cultural readings and the transformations within its own
critical discourse due to the claims of war writing. Regarding its
consciousness of how in such conditions the honored "neutral" ideological
position have to be disturbed, the author suggests that the common readings
of such an local ethnography within the perspective of the "global
objectivity" of anthropological discourse can end in a dialogical failure.
