Summary: A "fluency of ideas test" (divergent production) was
applied to 4 groups of the subjects (age: 10, 15, 20 and 25-56 years). The
task was to enumerate as many as possible ways in which a walking-stick
and half-empty match box can be used. The time allowed was: 2x2, 2x4, 2x6,
2x8 and 2x10 minutes. Some of the subjects were given only the names of
the objects, while the others were given also visual presentations. The
results: when very short time for enumerating was allowed the oldest
subjects were the best; the longer the time allowed the better were the
results of younger subjectss (especially if the objects were only given by
name). The highest results was obtained by years old subjects with 2x10
minutes and visual presentation. The most original ideas appear with 2x10
minutes.
Research goals: The mainobjective of the project is to test some
possibilites for creative potentialities development with the people note
speceally known to be creative. Well, 1) whether conditions changing
(lasting of divergent production and visual versusnon-visual presentation
of well-known objects) can influence the result, and how these changes
influence people of various age,and 2) to find out whether divergent
production can be trained (improved) by a simple method (frequent
production at various circum stances). According to Epstein's
(generativity) theory of creativity, an improvement is expected. The data
ob tained so farsay that changing of the conditions for divergent
production appears to be more use ful to younger subjects than the elders. Other information about the project.
