Summary: Besides emission amounts and technological characteristics
of emitted effluents an assessment of the pollution environmental impact
requires the knowledge on the diffusion, transport and deposition
processes, which are depend upon the dispersing feasibility of the
atmosphere boundary layer. These parameters are functions of macro-, meso-
and microscale atmospheric processes and local surface characteristics as
well. Therefore, the research has been carried out in several directions:
- The investigation of interrelationship of local and mesoscale
atmospheric processes and chemical composition of atmosphere; - The
investigation of dispersional parameters of the atmosphere boundary layer
in given urban, industrial and also in the "clean" environments; - Various
models, needed for the assessment of surface concentrations of pollutants,
have been modified to include local climatic characteristics in flat
ground-, mountainous- or coastal regions; - Long range transport model has
been evaluated for the pollutant transport assessment on the regional
scale. Its applications help to evaluate a background pollution due to the
transboundary pollutant transport; - A method has been evaluated to
determined the local background pollution; - Statistical analysis of
pollution data of the air and precipitation quality confirmed their
dependence on some meteorological parameters.
Research goals: Goals: 1) The evaluation of methods and procedures
for the identification, estimation and air and precipitation pollution
monitoring inland and along sea shore. 2) An assessment of the air
pollution dependence upon parametersof the atmosphere boundary layer in
various environments. 3) The adjustment and modification of air pollution
models to meet the boundary layer dispersional characteristics in our
region (to be verified in various localities). 4) An improvement of the
long range transport model to get reliable judgment on transboundary
transport of pollutants. 5) A proposal of the complex monitoring system of
key parameters in the air quality management. 6) Contribution to the
knowledge and definition of atmospheric processes affecting the air
quality of Croatia. 7) Contributions to the strategy of air quality
management innormal circumstances and organizing of warning procedures in
episodic situations. 8) Contributions to the environment air protection in
Croatia and broader - since there exists nor limits for the atmosphere.
