Summary: Chemical and electrochemical polymerization of aniline and
pyrrole has been carried out. The influence of different chemical oxidans
on the characteristics of resulting polypyrrole has been investigated. In
electrochemical polymerization several electrochemical techniques have
been utilized: cyclic voltammetry, potential step and constant potential
electrolysis using stationary and rotating disk electrode. Several
variables (different supporting electrolytes, concentrations of monomers,
pH of the solution, anodic potential of synthesis, temperature) in the
course of experiments have been tested and their influence on the
characteristics on the polymers obtained have been established. A
catalytic influence of polyaniline film, prepared from sulphuric and
perchloric acid solutions, on hydroquinone/benzoquinone and Fe2+/Fe3+
reactions has been investigated. The effect of PANI layer thickness on
redox reactions has been established, as well as different kinetics
depending on the counter-ion incorporated. The location of the reactions
taking place is discussed. The evidence is given for PANI metal-like
behaviour at potentials of emeraldine existence and redox-polymer
behaviour at potentials of pernigraniline existence.
Research goals: - The elucidation of the overall reaction mechanism
in chemical and electrochemical synthesis of conducting polymers
(polyaniline and polypyrrole) and the influence of the experimental
parametra on the distrubution of products - The influence of the
experimental parametra (potental of synthesis, different supporting
electrolytes) on the polymerization reaction rate as well as on the
nucleation process of polymers - The establishing of the catalytic activity
of conducting polymers as electrode materials on other systems - The
characterization of obtained polymers through morphology, stability and
conductivity
