Summary: It's of graet interest to find correlation between the
free terpene alcohols and bound as terpene glycosides in the same plant.
The investigation of monoterpene glycosides occuring in Mentha piperita,
Mentha aquatica, Salvia officinalis, Satureja montana and Thymus serpyllum
show the same terpene alcohols glycosidically bound and free in the
essential oils; like menthol, thymol and carvacrol. The geraniol was
detected in Thymus serpyllum and Satureja montana only. Investigations
of the essential oil as well as terpene glycosides of Thymus pulegioides,
grown wild in continental region of Dalmatia show relative large content of
geraniol (44.66%) and linalol(28.61%). So this Thymus pulegioides should be
more valued for its perfume oil, then for its medicinal properties.
Research goals: The investigations of the terpene glycosides and
terpene alcohols in the wild plants of Dalmatia have great importance.
It is interesting to investigate an accurate and simple method for the
isolation, purification and detection of terpene glycosides. So it is
possible to find correlation between free and bound terpene alcohols during
the biological evolution of the plant. From the practical point of view
it is necessary to make accurate values of isolated components so they
should be better used in pfarmaceutical or food or perfume industries Other information about the project.
