Summary: In the past six month as the project started
methodologicalpreparations for experimental work have been done and data
ofbackground values for cytogenetic study have been collected.
Keywords: molecular epidemiology of carcinomas, target sites in human genome, ionizing radiation,non-ionizing radiation, vinyl chloride monomer, chromosome abberation assay, sister chromatid exchange, micronucleus essay, mitotic index, G-banding
Research goals: The aim of this research which will be perfomed in
experimental conditions simulating those of the working environment is to
confirm that mutagenic agents damage human chromosome in a non-random
pattern.Target sites on human and animal chromosomes will be determined for
three environmental mutagens:ionizing radiation,non-ionizing radiation and
vinyl chloride monomer.Knowledge of carcinomas related specifically to work
places with exposure to those mutagens and data on carcinoma specific
changes in chromosomes should contribute to the development of molecular
epidemiology of some carcinomas. In that way medical care of a population
occupationally exposed to environmental mutagens could achive a new quality
as medical prevention based on our results and results of similar studies
could intensify a specific group of medical examinations.
