Summary: Research topics are conceptual modelling in discrete
simulation, simulation of active data bases, optimization in simulation,
simulation in decision making, statistical aspects of simulation,
simulation using data bases and simulation modelling of complex
technological systema (flexible manufacturing systems, waste processing
systems etc.).

Research goals: Strategic goal of the project is to establish, for
the first time in Croatia, the research oriented exclusively to
simulation modelling whose results could be used in a number of other
areas. Both theoretical and applied research will be developed. Main
goals and expected results of the research will be: - Overview,
classification and comparison of conceptual simulation models, -
Comparative analysis of discrete simulation and system dynamics, -
Simulation of active databases which work on parallel computers, and
formalization of all aspects of objects which are modelled, selection of
the best organization alternative, - Simulation with use of databases:
communication of simulation models with relational databases, -
Optimization in simulation: investigation of methods for optimum search in
simulation, - Statistics in simulation: experiment design, regression
metamodels of simulation experiments output variables, - Simulation and
artificial intelligence: 3-phase simulation strategy and production
systems, goal-oriented simulation, - Simulation modelling of complex
systems: flexible manufacturing systems etc., investigation of systems
behaviour. Finishing 3 Ph.D. thesis and 1 M.Sc. thesis, publication of
10-12 papers per year, publication of textbook "Simulation Modelling".
Organization of international workshop and the appropriate monograph,
publication of a book in conceptual modelling.
