Summary: A surface ship in constant velocity motion produces a
disturbance in the surrounding water, characterized by a wave pattern, a
boundary layer adjacent to the ship hull, and a wake. The theoretical and
experimental research concerning total surface ship resistance - being an
effect of the gravitational field and water viscousity that can be
determined from the produced disturbances - is directed to a wake analysis
and to an attempt of resolving the phenomenon into individual influences.
The following researches are to be carried out in the scope of the proposed
project: 1.Theoretical
analysis of resolving the total resistance into component parts suitable
for experimental determination. 2. Analysis of present exp. methods for
determination of component parts of the total resistance.
3.Numerical simulation of exp. determination of the surface ship
resistance components, as a necessary step within an experiment
preparation.
Keywords: ship hydrodynamics, ship resistance, ship wave resistance , viscous resistance of ships , experimental determination of ship wave resistance
Research goals: The aim and the results of theoretical and
experimental researches have been achieved through the following steps:
1.Theoretical basis for resolving the total ship resistance into component
parts has been established. 2.Experimental methods for determination of
component parts of the total resistance, have been developed. The methods
are based on measurements of hidrodynamic quantities behind a ship. 3.The
software necessary for application of the experimental methods has been
developed.
