Summary: The Project consists of three parts which are connected and
taken as a whole will yield the results contained in the title. The first
part deals with stochastic relations between the results obtained by
Proctor's compaction test and the consistency limits and concludes that
there exists a firm bond betweeen the liquid limit Wll and the dry density
obtained by Proctor's test. The second part deals with the possibility to
determinate liquid limit Wll using the one-point method with Cassagrande
apparatus and the fall-cone penetrometer method. It has been concluded that
one-point method can be used after the preliminary determination of the
exponent in the respective equation for defining the liquid limit Wll from
the moisture content obtent from the experiment. Seemingly, the value of
the exponent suggested by some standards (e.g. DIN) is not suitable for
general use. The thirdpart of the Project contains methodology for
determining the specification limits which can be used for the quick and
simple control of the quality of the built-in earth material.This suggests
the application of the samples method and its means instead of the control
by individual measurements. It also states of reaching wrong conclusions if
the control method is applied using the results of individuals. The basic
investigation is extended with research of stability and erosion in the
cuts made in the weak rock or in the soil. In the future the results of
Projct will be transformed in suggestions for standards.
Research goals: The target is quick and biggest quality control of
the built-in earthmaterial. Earth works consist of embankment and cut, and
work is enlarged with analysis of erosion on the cut surface. Both
investigations will result with the suggestions for large earth strutures
and cut. The suggestions deal with a quality control for the built-in of
earth material and a protection of the cut surface in the softrocks. An
extension of the Project is made by the research of possibilites of use
soft rock (marl) as a fill material for an embankment, if the soft rock
underwent the weathering process.
