Summary: The study include the measurement of the dynamic function
of the cervical spine in a group of 100 whiplash injured patients and 30
healthy subjects. The measurement will be taken twice: 2 months after the
injury, and 3 to 6 months after the first testing. For the measurement of
the dynamic function of the cervical spine kinesiologic electromyography
(EMG) and polarized goniometry (POLGON) will be used. The data of the
range and the speed of movement of the cervical spine in the sagittal and
frontal plane, and the surface EMG activity of the paravertebral muscles
will be proceeded and analyzed by computer.
Keywords: whiplash injury, dynamic function of spine, electromyography, goniometry, cervical spine, chronic neck pain, healty subjects
Research goals: The goals and expected results are: (1) the
introduction of a new diagnostic, objective,noninvasive method for the
assessment of the dynamic spinalfunction; (2) to test it's validity,
reliability andreproducibility; (3) to set the indications for it's use;
(4) tofind the criterions for differing whiplash injuried patients
andhealthy subjects; (5) to study the changes in the dynamic neckfunction
after a whiplash injury; (6) to study theelectrokinesiologic data which
could be prognostic forthe development of the state of chronic pain (in
whiplashinjuried patients).
