Summary: First results of bonsai training of the trees collected in nature, in Croatia, were elaborated by Vrgoč (1992) in his master's degree thesis. The thesis explains two years research of bonsai training of: Austrian Black Pine (Pinus nigra ssp. austriaca (Hoess) Vid.), Black Ash (Fraxinus ornus Mill.) and Hornbean (Carpinus orientalis Mill.). The samples of each species were collected from nature and trained in pots. The main idea of this new research is shaping the tree in its natural habitat before collecting in the purpose of shortening the time scale and using a carst as an excelent natural source of trees. The aproach of postcollecting treatment, of initially shaped trees, considers: green house facilities, pots suplied with bottom heat, vitamin B1, transplanting solution and cutting down the transpiration extent.
