Summary: The project named: Heridity and changing the relation and
composition of tissues in swine, was notified to the Ministry of science,
technology and informatics of the Republic of Croatia on December 12, 1990
and accepted by the Ministry on April 30, 1991. Six experiments have been
carried through and two are in the course. In two experiments the
interrelations and composition of muscular, fatty and bony tissues in
swine belonging to the Large White and Swedish Landrace, to the lines of
Hypor hybrids and to theirs cross-breeds were subjected to investigation.
Totally 512 fattened pigs have beeen dissected, and by the dissection
according to Weniger 142 data upon every pig brought together. From total
obtained about 72000 data about 35000 ones till now were processed,
eighteen papers published and further five are in the press. The obtained
data are used to estimate the breeding value of animals, on grounds of
which a carefully directed and assortative maiting is practised. The
relations of variances, particularly the part of additive variance (VA) in
phenotype variance (VP), are investigated. The correlation and regression
coefficients concerning to the relations and distribution of tissues in
carcass are investigated too. In the framework of project, besides
published papers, two doctoral theses have been treated and maintained.
Keywords: pigs, Swedish Landrace, Large White, Hypor, tissues: muscular fatty, bony, heridity, aditive and phenotype variances, regression, correlation
Research goals: The aim of investigation is to contribute to the
comprehension of theoretic laws in the domain of population genetics as a
basis of proper selecting work in swine. The characteristics of variability
for the correlation among muscular, fatty and bony tissues, as well as the
relations between parents and descendants according to the postulations of
Robinson (1977) are investigated. In terms of the theoretic explanation of
heredity the target is set out to investigate the regression relation
parents: descendants (h squared = 2 b, b=sum xy divided by sum x squared,
where x=parent mated with average parent, y=descendant) as the relations x
= value of a parent, x1=value of another parent, y= value of descendant.
The natural interpretation of those relations by the evidence of x and x1
requires that the value y would be expressed in space, what means giving up
te bidimensional normal distribution. Other information about the project.
