Summary: The investigation of biodegradation of toxic organic
compounds in waste water originating from chemical industry was carried out
using mixed culture of bacteria and yeasts. Three group of waste waters
were investigated: The first group of waste waters were loaded with the
compounds of the structure as: phenols, naphthalene, anthracene and
naphthalensulfonic acids. The second group were the structures of
polyaromatic hydrocarbon, cyanides, thiocyanates and lignosulfonates and
the third group were waste waters loaded with high concentration of
nitrogen and phosphorus. The microorganisms were selected and defined
as monocultures and mixed culture of bacteria and yeasts with high
enzymatic activity for the biodegradation of mentioned compounds.
During the biodegradation these compounds in waste waters, the processes of
detoxification and simultaneous nitrification and denitrification took
place. The parameters of biodegradation of these processes were determined
in lab-scale on the defined substrates as well as on the original waste
waters. For industrial scale were prepared the great amount of biomass
as "starter culture", which were applied for waste waters from the
production of phenol, coke and antibiotics as well as for the elimination
of nitrogen from municipal waste waters. On the basis of these results
of the investigation was developed and applied a new technology for the
treatment of municipal and industrial waste waters called "Technology of
injection". This technology was applied for the treatment of waste waters
from the production of phenol and coke.
Research goals: Goals and expected results: The results of lab
experiment could be applly in large scale in the industry for the treatment
of waste waters. The achieved results in lab scale are the aim to
attain the quality of the effluent on the level of european standards of
quality.
