Summary: During the research period, dramatic political and
economic changes were occurring in Europe. Amongst other things, this
included the fall of communist socio-political structures, and the
establishment of Croatia as a fully recognized member of the international
community. Thus, Croatia could communicate internationally and establish
commercial ties with other countries in Croatia's interests. For
Croatia, economic cooperation with other countries, especially those of the
European Union, is of great importance. The EU represents the greatest
concentration of trade and other commercial relations for Croatia. The
research is aimed at analyzing integrational processes in Europe, and their
impact on the Croatian economy. The restructuring of the European Community
into the European Union (forming a single European trading market) is
researched separately. This research has shown that the Croatian
economy is faced with a significant challenge in restructuring itself to
meet the requirements of the modern marketplace, and simultaneously meeting
the many requirements of Western European trading partners.
