Summary: Thec introduction of information technology is justly considered as one of the major breakthroughs in the last decade or so. There is almost no field of human endeavor in whihc it did not penetrate so far. And yet, there is a paucity of empirical research or theoretical efforts to explain the impact of information technology on individuals and society. Here we are proposing research project by which we would like to answer how information technology affects psychosocial processes related to work and organizations. In our project we have 3 groups of variables: 1. independent variable - technology (classical or information); 2. dependent variables- psychosocial processes such as: work motivation, job satisfaction, work alienation; 3. intervening variables: task complexity, work autonomy, job requirements on skills and abilities, possibilities of professional advancement, physical work conditions. In our research we are going to have so called factorial design, precisely 2x2 table. Thanks to intervening variables, especially task complexity, we are going to be in position to verify the impact of information technology on psychosocial processes as previously defined separately for the routine and non-routine or flexible jobs. Theoretical and practical implications of the results we are going to obtain in our opinion might be significant.

Keywords: information technology, work motivation, job satisfaction, work alienation, task complexity, factorial design

Research goals: The goal of our project is to check how information technology affects psycho-social processes in work organization in our social and cultural context. Even if tehre is a lot of inernational empirical research results and theoretical efforts available, it would be very difficult, if not impossible, to apply these theories or results in our social context. We believe that obtained research results besides being theoretically relevant will be also used as a part of more general policy how to use or how to implement information technology in Croatian production organizations.
